Howard Kurtz, a Fox News host, aimed at CBS Scott Pelley’s journalist for a burning start address of the “60 -minute” correspondent in Wake Forest University, criticizing -as a partisan supporter disguised as a graduation speech.
During his “Mediabuzz” program Sunday, Kurtz asked Pelley what he described as a “harsh rhetorical attack” from President Donald Trump, given to a student audience and his families.
“I just think it is inappropriate to use a start address to say these things,” Kurtz said.
Kurtz argued that the speech was not only out of place, but also an emblematic of a broader ideological inclination in CBS News.
“This does not strengthen the idea that the network is incredibly biased against the president?” asked.
Pelley, a “60 -minute” equipment since 1999, was not retained in May 19th in the Wake Forest Graduate Graduates class. He warned of what he described as a growing tide of fear and suppression of American public life, linking the climate directly to the politics of Trump’s time.
“This morning our sacred rule of law is in attack,” Pelley told the crowd.
“Journalism is in attack, universities are in attack, freedom of expression is under attack and insidious fear comes to schools, our businesses, our homes and our private thoughts.”
He continued: “The fear of talking – in America? If our government is, in Lincoln’s phrase,” of people, people, people, “then why are we afraid of speaking? Ignorance works for power. Power can change the definition of the words we used to describe reality. This is an ancient playbook, my friends. There is nothing new in this.”
Pelley’s wide address, which applauded some of the crowd, was run over by online critics as overflowing and politically collected.
A social media user struck the veteran anchor of “Raging a Trump in an angry and bewildered start address”, while another called him “a self -sufficient sermonization propagandist.”
Conservative commentator Juanita Broaddrick, who has been accused of former President Bill Clinton for a long time, labeled a pelley “a pompous pop” in response to the speech.
Others pointed to the address calendar, as the CBS paramount company, Paramount Global, is in Trump settlement conversations due to a $ 20 billion demand related to a controversial “ 60 -minute ” interview that was published during the 2024 campaign.
Trump’s legal team claims that the show was deceptively edited with the then Vice President Kamala Harris to help his candidacy.
Lesley Stahl, another broadcast veteran, recently told New Yorker that some “60 -minute” employees considered a resignation of the possible payment, which could reach $ 15 million.
“Scott Pelley mentioned that 60 minutes edited the interview of the Kamala campaign and helped -to answer questions ???” A critic wrote to X, before Twitter.
“Until he does, his credibility is zero.”
Despite the setback, Pelley made a direct call to the next generation in his observations, saying to the graduates: “Your country needs you, the country that has given you so much calls you, the class of 2025, your country needs you and needs you today.”
This is not the first time that a dissemination journalist has resulted in fire to inject politics into a graduation ceremony, but Kurtz suggested that the moment emphasized what he sees as a CBS pattern.
Pelley and CBS News have not responded publicly to criticism.
Meanwhile, mediation efforts in Trump’s demand against the network began earlier this month.
